It’s cold out. The snow has just about melted, though there’s the odd patch here and there, and I’m thinking about summer ice cream sundaes
I think my seaside town needs an ice cream parlour to brighten summer days. Whitstable is an artistic kind of place with lots of cosmopolitan daytrippers visiting from London, so this would have to be the right kind of ice cream parlour, a smart-funny ice cream parlour with a twist or two to bring a smile.
So how about? A competition each month for the best sundae recipe, with the winner’s ice cream on sale as the special. Amusing names for the ice cream concoctions, like a Sunday sundae that was only sold on Sundays. Ice cream parties where kids concoct edible fun while wearing party hats. Healthy fruity sundae recipes on the menu. Plus a website where you play sundae-building games.
But it’s winter, so what would an ice cream shop do when it was cold and business was slow? I think it should serve breakfast sundaes! Concoctions of egg, bacon with ketchup or brown sauce instead of strawberry syrup, we could use toast instead of a wafer biscuit.
I don’t think my Whitstable egg and bacon ice cream sundae shop will ever come to be, but it is a sunny thought on a chilly day.
